“Enough. I achieved what I needed and no longer require your services. You can both go back to the Regent and tell her that you found me. Tell her that she is to inform the attendees at the ball that I am not feeling well and have retired for the evening. Tell her that I will meet with her in the morning. Now get up and get going.”

The guard on the bed jumped up and pulled himself together. As soon as he was ready they brought their fists to their chest in salute, turned on their heels and headed out the door.

“One last thing…both of you come to my private chambers after your watches tomorrow evening. We’ll do this again and you two will switch places.”

Her tongue man went pale as they both saluted again and said,

“Yes Highness!”

Angel smiled happily as she watched them leave.

Meanwhile at the stables…

Jared had no more than pulled on his hose and cod piece inside the stables when a voice called out of the darkness,

“Who goes there?”

“My name is Jared of Highhold and I was told by the Lady…”
